Welcome to SULAAH- A Fashion Magazine for the Socially Free. My feelings are a mixture of emotions. I am empowered, happy and extremely motivated to tap into each issue that I put out. This first issue was personal. The evolution of how Sulaah came about is still something I am grappling with because it was like a force was guiding and driving me to create and put out this magazine. The overwhelming support from friends, collaborators, colleagues was humbling and I just feel really thankful. I am at a good starting point. There are some questions I didn’t get to answer in the magazine, so I will do so now. For now, the magazine will be bi-monthly. The magazine will feature up to three models. As I grow , so will the demand, but I want to stay in this intimate moment with the magazine and allow myself to learn the publishing business, understand my audience, write thought provoking articles and to create visually beautiful images. I want to take my time to create something amazing and to work and collaborate with the best artists out there. whether known or unknown.
In this issue, the theme that is recurring is women’s empowerment, loving yourself and taking control of your power. The feature article Caribbean Serenade is an homage to the Caribbean woman who immigrates to the United States. With all the immigration tension in the country, it’s important to me that the beautiful women who come here for a better life must also remember the good times they had back home and to remember to take care of themselves . Although, written from a Caribbean perspective, everyone can relate. So, I invite you to delve into this magazine. Share your feedback, critiques and let me know your thoughts. I’ll see you in October.
